When should a homeowner discuss replacement?
After a qualified provider examines the existing roof and explains why a repair would or would not address the observed problem. A visible stain, age estimate or storm date is not by itself a replacement diagnosis. Ask what roof area was assessed and what the proposed new roof would include. This site does not inspect or determine the condition of hidden materials.
What should the proposal specify?
Ask the contractor to describe removal or retained layers, the roofing material, associated flashings and other work, and how the finished installation will be checked. The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors' Residential Roofing classification covers construction, installation and repair of residential roofs. For a material comparison, see metal roofing, but no one material is prescribed for every Baton Rouge home.
How do storm conditions affect the decision?
The National Weather Service New Orleans/Baton Rouge office publishes hurricane-preparedness information. Follow local warnings and leave roof access to professionals after a storm. This page cannot determine whether a storm caused damage or whether an insurance policy applies. OSHA publishes fall-protection resources for roofing work.
What should you verify before hiring?
Use the LSLBC real-time contractor search and ask for the license category and insurance relevant to the work. The board's residential roof work notice identifies eligible residential classifications from January 2026. This website does not preapprove a provider.
Calls may be routed to an independent referral partner. An independent provider decides whether to accept an inquiry; no answer or response time is promised.
