What belongs in a residential roofing inquiry?

Tell a provider about a visible concern, planned installation or replacement for a home, and when the issue appeared. Observe from the ground or inside the home. Do not go onto the roof or use a ladder to inspect a leak. A roofing professional decides what assessment is safe and whether repair or replacement is appropriate.

Which Louisiana classification should you ask about?

The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors describes Residential Roofing as construction, installation or repair of residential roofs. Its notice says that from January 1, 2026, only licensees with Residential Construction or Residential Roofing classifications may perform residential roof work. Ask a proposed provider for the applicable category and insurance; check its current information in the LSLBC search. This website does not check it for you.

What should a proposal specify?

Ask which part of the roof the provider inspected, what materials and related details the proposed work includes and what follow-up is planned. A stain inside the home or a storm date does not establish the hidden roof condition. The NWS New Orleans/Baton Rouge office publishes hurricane guidance; follow local warnings, not a website roof diagnosis.

Is every Baton Rouge ZIP covered?
